Ok, so last night I had one of those wonderful while ever so brief moments to take my wife out to eat. Rachelle had asked to go eat Chinese food. Now while I love everything about the orient, we were on the wrong side of town from our usual Chinese fare. I didn't know what to do and finally saw a small "hole in the wall" Chinese restaurant right next to the Zia Records on Thunderbird and 24th Avenue. You know when you look at it...it doesn't even look like you should walk in thinking what was the board of health thinking right? Either way, off we went down the road of unknown.
So we walked in and spoke to the front dude, Tony. Very nice. Rachelle orders Sesame Chicken Combo and I order the C urry Chicken Combo. As we sit in the few tables and chairs the place has, we are watching "Hell's Kitchen" in the small television they have in the corner of the store. To say that this place is quaint would be an understatement. I've had closets bigger. :) Well the food finally comes out. STYRO FOAM??? The chef has put the food we are going to eat already in the styro foam containers to take home...ok, I guess we'll eat it out of the take out containers...
As I begin to eat, utter SHOCK hits my face as the food in this place is incredible! The curry that I am eating is easily the best curry I had ever had. It wasn't extremely hot at the beginning but boy did it come back to kick you in the end! Rachelle's sesame chicken was the most savory food I had ever tried! Did I just find the Lost City of Cibola! Had I just tripped over the Holy Grail of food! I had to meet the owner. His name is Hon. Very nice gentleman, but not very talkative. I thanked him for a WONDERFUL dinner and told him that this wouldn't be the last time he would see this fat mexican! Don't remember the name of the place...hehe sorry, but if you are ever by the zia records on Thunderbird by the I-17 Freeway and see a little store front Chinese that looks like the arm pit of the Orient...take the chance. It might just blow your mind! :)
